Day 8 of 24 (2021)

Today's Reading: Luke 8 Today's Focus: Vs. 4-15 Author: Katie Ma

After spending time with my church for many years now, there are conversations with newcomers as well as Brothers and Sisters in Christ I have known about our experience with sharing the gospel (word of God).  Sometimes questions like these ones come up:

“Why do we not pray in a more serious tone (like literally crying out to God)?  The other prayer meeting I went to does that.”

“Why do we not visit more places like assisted living homes, hospitals, orphanages, or jail?”

“Why do we and why do we not reach out to people in our neighborhood?”

“Who’s that smoking outside and parking at a restricted spot when he/she is not supposed to?  Do we still keep him/her in our church?”

There are many questions about how we deliver the word of God, to whom we share the word of God and where we go to share the word of God.  The parable of the sower in verse 4-15 mentioned that the sower went out to sow his seed.  The seeds fell in four different type of places.  Only the ones that fell on good soil grew and yielded a hundredfold (vs 8).

The seed is the word of God (vs 11).  The path, the rock, the soil among the thorns, and the good soil are those who heard the word of God but have different outcomes.  If we the Christians are the sower, didn’t the sower go out to sow his seed and let them fall in different places?  We are to share the word of God whenever and wherever there is an opportunity.  We don’t always know who will become the good soil who upon hearing the Word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience (vs 15).  Some good soils might not look good at the beginning.  Some people might seem like they will hear but not grow or mature but only God knows each person deep down inside their heart.  We are to be a sower that doesn't stop sowing His seed!
