Season 7 Episode 1

Here we are, July 1st. We have made it past the half-way mark of 2020. Everyone is wondering, "oh no. How could 2020 get any worse? Wait. I don't want to know!"

Each day is viewed as an episode of the worst show on earth.
Each event is viewed as a sign of the apocalypse.
Every villain is viewed as the anti-Christ.

We quickly forget that God is still God even when disaster and tragedy strikes.

Job 14:1-5

“Man who is born of a woman
is few of days and full of trouble.
He comes out like a flower and withers;
he flees like a shadow and continues not.
And do you open your eyes on such a one
and bring me into judgment with you?
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean?
    There is not one.
Since his days are determined,
and the number of his months is with you,
and you have appointed his limits that he cannot pass...

This sounds rather depressing, doesn't it??
  • Few days on earth, but it's full of trouble
  • Born and starts to wither
  • As permanent as a shadow
  • God numbers our days and appoints when we die

An improper and fragmented view of God would suggest that life is unfair and tragic. This translates to messages on social media that "2020 is a chaotic year."

Yet, as Believers, we know that the book of Job shows that God is sovereign, omniscient, omnipotent, benevolent, and holy. Thus, this passage is one of hope. Even though our short days on earth are full of trouble from the moment we are born-- even though death seems unpredictable and destructive-- it is God who works behind the scenes. A further look at the rest of the chapter places all hope in God alone. (Yes! Go read the rest of the chapter!)

The same God who appointed beloved Son to die and then raise Him back to life is the same God that has appointed when we die... and will bring us back to life again!
